Grow+ Glow Therapy is an occupational therapy practice passionate about providing services to children and families in Singapore. We are committed to guiding families through what can often be an overwhelming experience when accessing services.
How? Our philosophy places the relationship at the centre of change. We believe in advocating for the child, empowering parents, collaborating with community partners and using evidence-based practice to guide all that we do.
Where we practice
We practice in our clinic space and provide home-based and school-based sessions. You can also find us supporting our clients in the playground, in a restaurant or at the beach. We will go wherever the client wants to overcome a fear, achieve a goal or generalise a skill.
Clinic OT
Clinic based occupational therapy is carried out in a specialised sensory motor gym. It provides a specific, adjustable environment to challenge and support growth for sensory, motor and perceptual skills. Each available therapy setting provides its own unique benefits. Participating in clinic based session can provide a safe space to challenge skills in a safe and supportive environment with specialised sensory motor equipment.
Home based OT
Home-based occupational therapy involves the therapist travelling to your home and completing the therapy session in the child’s most familiar environment. Research supports home-based intervention as an effective method for supporting positive change. The therapist will bring everything that is needed for the session. Parent or caregiver involvement increases and it is easier for the child to continue practicing the skills acquired in between sessions.
School based OT
School-based occupational therapy is focused on supporting the development of skills a child requires to successfully participate in school. With access to the classroom, therapists can better understand any barriers to learning the student may be experiencing. Therapy can take place in an individual space on campus. The important element of school based therapy is the collaboration between the therapist and teacher and how skills required in school are supported in the relevant environment.
Who may benefit from support
A child may benefit from support if they have needs in the areas of:
-
Gross motor or fine motor skills.
-
Completing self-care skills such as toileting, brushing teeth, dressing or eating.
-
Handwriting including motor, sensory or perceptual challenges.
-
Organising themselves or their belongings.
-
Planning and sequencing tasks.
-
Regulating their body to attend to a lesson.
-
Emotional regulation
-
Forming and maintaining friendships.
-
Visual perceptual skills which may impact many school-based tasks.
-
Processing sensory information – for example becoming upset by certain fabrics, sounds or other sensory experiences.
-
Low frustration tolerance or poor impulse control.
Any child experiencing challenges preventing them from living life to the fullest could potentially benefit from occupational therapy services. While we serve clients with a range of diagnosis, a diagnosis is not necessary to participate in therapy services.
TESTIMONIALS
Parents Recommend
I feel like we have been really lucky to have come here to Singapore... perhaps kismet. Mairead has been an important part of my son's development to help him succeed. With the kind assistance of Mairead, he has better awareness of his body that he never had before, is a lot calmer and is definitely a happy chap! Now even his teachers are noticing a dramatic difference in him being able to sit on the mat with his peers and listen! His attention span is much greater than it was, which is a big deal and positively impacts him in everything he does! He looks forward to his sessions with Mairead and loves to make the plan for himself with her.
Some of the things I really appreciate about Mairead is the constant usable or actionable feedback she gives us. She didn't just see him in "isolation" but took the time to know more about his home life too and it really makes a difference for him and us.
Shini's work with Jack has been fantastic. Shini is very thoughtful and patient, and has really taken time to gain Jack's trust. Jack has expanded his play skills through Shini's therapy, and now is able to spend a lot of time engaging with his toys, and trying out some social play.
Shini has also been very helpful to me as a parent - explaining in really basic terms how to play with Jack in a way that he enjoys. This has been so nice as a mum - because it has allowed me to connect a lot more with him. Shini is also very helpful at explaining some of his sensory needs - like why he wants to be upside down or on the swing. Having a better understanding has been useful, because now I don't curtail these activities so much. Shini is a great OT.
We've been working with Mairead on/off for the past 2 years. She has been our rock during out most difficult and emotional times as we've been navigating through our daughters emotional and behavioural challenges and growth. She has an incredible calming effect on us all and we truly appreciate her warm, caring and authentic techniques.
